It is related that there is no sure cure for cancer. There’s certainly no way to bypass the development of cancer inside a person’s own body. It is a secret and deadly illness that is not well understood. There have been links made between cancer and high risk behaviors, but there’s no clear recipe for either the development of or the avoidance of cancer. Plenty of the links that have been made in association with some cancers are contained inside someone’s diet. A vegan diet is quite possibly the lowest risk one when it comes to cancer. Whether you are looking out for your future and you haven’t had cancer or you are getting over cancer, a vegetarian diet could be a smart choice for you.

Meat has been linked with the risk for developing cancer. Red meat is especially famous for being listed among the offenders. While no one is certain why the beef links to cancer, there are some theories. It might be that red meat is so often griddled or broiled such that it is blackened on the outside.


Charcoal is also suspected to be a carcinogen. When you eat the blackened surface of your burger or steak, you are essentially eating charcoal. Another theory is that the animals themselves are the dangerous component. Cows are often fed hormones which stimulate tissue expansion. It could be that those hormones continue to work after the cow is dead. Rather than stimulating healthy muscle expansion though, they begin to affect healthy cells negatively.


If this were the case [**] it wouldn’t sound right that red beef is more heavily linked to cancer than other meats. Chickens and pigs are also fed supplements to enhance growth. Whatever the cause for the link between diets heavily weighted with meat, that link is there. By getting rid of meat, the possibilities of developing cancer are statistically reduced.


What are Antioxidants?


Antioxidants are chemical compounds found in the food that we eat. They’re employed along with your body’s natural defenses to combat disease. They’re especially useful when it comes to promoting healthy tissue growth instead of carcenogenic tissue expansion. Antioxidants are found in several of the things that fit with a vegetarian diet. In addition to junking meats, you can reduce your risk of getting cancer by consuming antioxidants. Spinach as well as blueberries and a number of other plant foods are rich in antioxidants. The excellent news is that these foods are highly tasty and they’re also very flavorsome. Who doesn’t like blueberries?


Green tea is also an excellent source for antioxidants. If you cannot afford any more calories in your daily diet, but you haven’t eaten enough antioxidant rich foods, brew a pot of green tea. Green teas are available decaffeinated or even in pill form. The extra hydration you will get from drinking the tea won’t hurt though.

Let’s face it – there are times when we need to go to a fast food restaurant.  Desperate times call for desperate measures is my motto.  Sometimes you have no choice but to eat fast food in the fast paced culture we live in today.  If you’re traveling, in a rush or if there are no other alternatives and you’re about to pass out may be one of those times.  Many of us would prefer to boast that we never eat fast food but if we took a lie detector tests it would be proved otherwise.  

 

If you are absolutely forced to stop at a drive thru, there are healthy choices available to you.  You just have to know what they are.  Obviously, anything fried or super sized is not going to do anything for your waistline.  I have researched what is healthy and what to avoid at a few major fast food places. The well known fast food establishment with the red headed girl in the pig tails is probably one of the healthiest fast food places.  Try to choose food less than 300 calories per serving such as grilled chicken fillet sans the mayo, a side salad or a small chili and try to avoid the loaded baked potato. 

 

At the leading nationwide taco establishment, choose the hard or soft tacos or any gorditas and avoid the loaded nachos and the stuffed burritos.  At a popular sandwich joint order turkey, roast beef, or ham on wheat bread loaded with veggies and avoid the meatball and Italian subs.  At the leading hamburger chain restaurants order side salads, small burgers, or grilled chicken sandwiches.  Avoid larger portions of fries, onion rings, and sodas. 

 

Once in a while, it’s Ok to stop for fast food but don’t make it a daily habit.  About 5 years ago, I knew someone who ate at a well known fast food burger place every day for lunch.  I was amazed because I don’t think my sensitive stomach could handle it.  Maybe he just ate it everyday to save money because he boasted about ordering the most inexpensive items on the menu.  He never ordered the healthier items and I witnessed him gain roughly 30 pounds within a relatively short amount of time.  Either way, it is comforting to know that there are healthy items available at fast food places.

7 Healthy Eating Tips to Help You Lose Weight in the Summer

Generally, as the weather gets warmer we wear less clothes, so as summer approaches many people want to lose weight and get in shape for the beach. Below are 7 healthy eating tips to help you lose weight during the summer months.

Tip #1: Fresh Fruits are the #1 Snack

Depending on where you live, you likely see a significant improvement in the quality of the produce offered at your local grocery store during the summer months. Stock up on fruit once or twice a week. Take them to work, eat them as snacks, and eat them as dessert.

I don’t know about you, but for me a ripe mango taste just as good if not better than candy or a sugary dessert. And fruit will always have so much more vitamins, minerals, fiber, and water than any processed sugary dessert that comes in a box or bag.

Weight Loss Tip #2: Eat a Salad Once a Day

Just like fruit, the veggies tend to be fresher during the summer months. When you stock up on fruit, also stock up on veggies.

Preparing your own salad at lunch or with dinner is a great way to add tons of fiber and minerals to your diet without adding tons of calories. Starting dinner with a salad is a great way to curb overeating and support weight loss.

Weight Loss Tip #3: Careful with the Cold Drinks

During a hot summer day it’s so easy to reach for something cool and refreshing to drink, but you have to be careful that you’re not drinking too many extra calories. Sweetened Lemonade can pack over 200 calories for a 12 ounce serving.

A can of ice cold Coca Cola has about 140 calories per 12 ounce can. A cold 12 ounce beer has about 150 calories. And if you reach for a mixed drink like a cold Pina Colada while you’re sitting at the beach you’ll take in an additional 600 calories.

During the hot summer days try to stay hydrated with mostly water. Drinking mostly water is a great summer weight loss tip.

Tip #4: Careful with the Cold Desserts

Just like cool drinks, during the summer months it seems so easy to reach for ice cream after dinner to cool off. Ice cream tastes good, but it can really wreak havoc on your waistline. An occasional treat is okay, but try not to get the deluxe banana split with whipped cream, caramel, chocolate, fudge, and nuts. If you absolutely must have ice cream, consider sharing with someone else or buy 1 dessert for a group of 4. Less is more.

Tip #5: BBQ a Little Healthier

BBQ’s are a part of summer that so many people love, but a BBQ doesn’t have to be an excuse for you to pig out on all the bad stuff. Go light on the full fat beef, cheese, potato chips, coke, and beer.
Consider sharing a half of a hamburger or skip the cheese. Always seek out any fresh veggies, and limit yourself to one drink that is not water.

Tip #6: Eat Less When You Dine Out.

First, I will say that preparing your own food will help you to lose weight if you eat out often. But, when you do go out to eat during the summer months, try to eat a little less. You can cut back on restaurant calories by eliminating 1 or more courses.

Do you need the bread, appetizers, desserts, and drinks? Ask if you can have the sauce on the side, and try to order something tasty and a little healthy.

Tip #7: Aim to Eat 4-5 smaller meals throughout the day.

I know so many people rush off to work with no breakfast, and often skip or have a light lunch. Then at dinner it’s 1000 calories followed by another 500 calories of dessert. Your metabolism doesn’t like large meals. Try to eat 3-4 300-600 calorie meals and 1-2 100-200 calorie snacks throughout the day.

Hopefully, these simple eating tips will help you to lose weight. Of course, if you are really serious about losing weight then you will also incorporate exercise. Walking is a great place to start, and adding weight training will give you a significant boost. Get started and stick with it.
