Weight Loss 7 Foods That Will Melt Your Fat Away
Jan 24th
As summer approaches most of us think about losing weight. We fantasize about a washboard stomach, firm thighs, toned backside. We imagine the looks we receive on the beach. We seek the energy that come from having a fit and toned body. Losing weight makes us feel great.
And sure, whilst we are at our ideal weight we are motivated enough not to gorge on comfort foods. Who needs food comfort when you look like Brad Pit?
We are more refreshed when we wake up. We fit into the tight jeans from many years ago. Our heart skips a beat when we look in the mirror. Damn, we haven’t felt this alive in YEARS.
But to get there, is it worth it ?
Hunger, calorie counting, sweat at the gym.
Research shows that most of us lose water instead of fat and end up reverting back to our old self after a few months.
Is there any easier way ?
The answer is YES.
Although exercise and calories are important to weight loss, nature has provided us with foods that literally melt the fat away from us.
*No need for hours at the gym
*No need to starve
*Save the money you spend on pills, shakes and magnets.
*And please don’t go to the surgeon.
A trip to the supermarket, a recipe book and keeping an open mind will put you on a path to your dream body.
Welcome to nature’s Fat Busters.
* Natural Fat buster 1 Cinnamon
This popular spice, once considered more precious than gold, has an ability to reduce blood sugar, and increase insulin levels. Cinnamon also reduces bad cholesterol (LDL), leaving the Good cholesterol (HDL) intact (1). It can be used in its powdered or stick form, added to food and drink or as a supplement. Why does increased insulin level help to lose weight ? because When we eat, our body converts carbohydrates into blood sugar (glucose), affecting how hungry and how energetic we feel. It also determines whether we burn fat or store it. Steady insulin flow means we crave less suger, store less fat and use more energy.
* Natural Fat buster 2 Garlic
From fending off vampires to treating tuberculosis, this venerable relative of the onion is one of an exclusive club to have been mentioned in the Old Testament. A study at the Weitzman Institute concluded that rats actually lost weight whilst eating garlic. Today it is being heralded as a “miracle drug” which can help in the treatment of various ailments such as high cholesterol, blood clots and bacteria. A note of caution – garlic may be toxic to cats and dogs.
* Natural Fat buster 3 Ginger
Ginger has been used for over 5000 years as medicine by Chinese and Indians Today it is reputed to help with a wide range of ailments ranging from heart attacks to arthritis and cancer. In 1992 Preliminary research reported in the International Journal of Obesity measured reactions in rats and found that the tissues used more energy, thereby increasing weight loss. (2)
* Natural Fat buster 4 Cayenne pepper and chili
Taiwanese researchers found that capsaicin, the active ingredient in Cayenne pepper and chili, destroyed new fat cells and prevented fat cell growth – at least in test tubes. It also inhibited genes involved in fat cell growth. In another study, Danish researchers reported that in a concentrated form, capsaicin promoted thermogenesis (the process by which the body generates heat, or energy, by increasing the metabolic rate above normal), reduced hunger, and triggered fat breakdown.
* Natural Fat buster 5 Green Tea
Green tea is one of four types of tea (white, green, black and oolong) that come from the plant Camellia sinensis. The beneficial effects of green tea are attributed to the polyphenols, particularly the catechins, which make up 30% of the dry weight of green tea leaves. There are numerous studies that prove the effect of green tea on metabolism and weight loss. In one of these the consumption of Green Tea increased metabolism by 4%, where’s caffeine consumed to the same amount did not. In rats there was also a notable decrease in body fat and cholesterol (3).
* Natural Fat buster 6 Coconut milk
Coconut mil contains a substance called MCT which is proven to have beneficial effect on metabolism due to its direct digestive quality. MCT stands for Medium chain triglycerides, a sort of fatty acid whose length is ….well…medium. Long chain fatty acids belong to the milk of humans, dogs and guinea pigs. The short variety is of cow, sheep and goat. Studies show that it has a positive impact on metabolism (4). You can also receive MCT by adding Palm kernel oil into your cooking.
* Natural Fat buster 7 Water
Last but definitely not least, water naturally depresses the appetite and enables the body to metabolise stored fat. Not only does water increase metabolism, it also gives the illusion of fullness, thereby stopping us from reaching to the fridge. A research shows that drinking 500 ml. of water increased metabolism by a whopping 30% (5).

Top Ten Strangest Foods From Around the World
Jan 22nd
They say one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The same could be said about food: one man’s nightmare may just be another man’s delicacy. From cow’s tongue and pig’s snout to chicken’s feet, from fried worms and frog’s legs to sautéed snails, the list of weird stuff we eat is endless (and often quite tasty). If you’ve been indulging lately and need a reason to diet, take a read, you may just lose that appetite. Here is the list of the ten strangest foods from around the world.
10. Fried – brain sandwiches
Long before the era of Mad-Cow Disease, a sandwich made from fried calves’ brain, thinly sliced on white bread was a common item on the menus in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The sandwich is still available in the Ohio River Valley, where the brains are now heavily battered and served on hamburger buns. In El Salvador and Mexico beef brains, lovingly called sesos in Spanish, are used in tacos and burritos. The brains have a mushy texture and very little flavor on their own so the addition of copious amounts of hot sauce definitely helps.
9. Haggis
A traditional Scottish dish, haggis is made with the minced heart, liver and lung of a sheep mixed with onion, spices, oatmeal, salt and stock, and boiled in the sheep’s stomach for a few hours. Larousse Gastronomique, a popular encyclopedia of gastronomic delights, claims that haggis has “an excellent nutty texture and delicious savory flavor.” Haggis is available year-round in Scottish supermarkets and made with an artificial casing rather than a sheep’s stomach. In fact some are sold in cans to be heated in a microwave before eating. Similar dishes can be found in other European countries with goat, pork or beef used instead of sheep.
8. Bugs
The practice of eating insects for food is called entomophagy and is fairly common in many parts of the world, with the exceptions of Europe and North America (though bugs are apparently a favorite with the television show “Fear Factor”). It is not uncommon to find vendors selling fried grasshoppers, crickets, scorpions, spiders and worms on the streets of Bangkok, Thailand. Insects are high in protein and apparently consist of important fatty acids and vitamins. In fact flour from drying and grinding up mealworm can be and is often used to make chocolate chip cookies. So next time you think there is a fly in your soup, it may actually just be part of the presentation.
7. Rocky Mountain Oysters
What is so strange about oysters? Probably the fact that they’re not the kind you find at the bottom of the ocean, but rather a fancy name given to deep-fried testicles of a buffalo, bull or boar. Rocky Mountain oysters (also called Prairie Oysters) are well-known and regularly enjoyed, in certain parts of the United States and Canada, generally where cattle ranching is prevalent. The testicles are peeled, boiled, rolled in a flour mixture, and fried, then generally served with a nice cocktail sauce.
6. Stuffed Camel
The recipe for a whole stuffed camel kind of reads like a bad joke, with ingredients that include one whole camel, one whole lamb and 20 whole chickens. The Guinness Book of World Records lists the recipe as the largest item on any menu in the world, conveniently leaving out any concrete examples of this dish actually being eaten. Legend has it that that a whole stuffed camel is a traditional Bedouin dish seemingly prepared like a Russian Stacking Doll, where a camel is stuffed with a whole lamb, the lamb stuffed with the chickens and the chickens stuffed with eggs and rice. The entire concoction is then barbecued until cooked and served. Fact or fiction, the shear amount of food created by this dish makes it deserving of a place on the list.
5. Hakarl
Anthony Bourdain, known for eating some of the strangest foods in the world, claims that hakarl is the most disgusting thing he has ever eaten. Made by gutting a Greenland or Basking shark and then fermenting it for two to four months, hakarl is an Icelandic food that reeks with the smell of ammonia. It is available all year round in Icelandic stores and often served in cubes on toothpicks.
4. Fugu
Fugu is the Japanese word for the poisonous puffer fish, filled with enough of the poison tetrodotoxin to be lethal. Only specially-trained chefs, who undergo two to three years of training and have passed an official test, can prepare the fish. Some chefs will choose to leave a minute amount of poison in the fish to cause a tingling sensation on the tongue and lips as fugu can be quite bland. Perhaps the fuss of fugu is more in surviving the experience than the actual taste of the deadly fish.
3. Casu Marzu
Found in the city of Sardinia in Italy, casu marzu is a cheese that is home to live insect larvae. These larvae are deliberately added to the cheese to promote a level of fermentation that is close to decomposition, at which point the cheese’s fats are broken down. The tiny, translucent worms can jump up to half a foot if disturbed, which explains why some people prefer to brush off the insects before enjoying a spoonful of the pungent cheese.
2. Sannakji
With sashimi and sushi readily available the world over, eating raw seafood is no longer considered a dining adventure. The Korean delicacy sannakji however, is something quite different, as the seafood isn’t quite dead. Live baby octopus are sliced up and seasoned with sesame oil. The tentacles are still squirming when this dish is served and, if not chewed carefully, the tiny suction cups can stick to the mouth and throat. This is not a dish for the fainthearted.
1. Balut
Balut seems to be on every “strange food” list, usually at the top, and for good reason. Though no longer wriggling on the plate like the live octopus in Korea, the fertilized duck or chicken egg with a nearly-developed embryo that is boiled and eaten in the shell is easily one of the strangest foods in the world. Balut is very common in the Philippines, Cambodia and Vietnam and usually sold by street vendors. It is said balut tastes like egg and duck (or chicken), which is essentially what it is. It is surprising to many that a food that appears so bizarre—often the with the bird’s features clearly developed–can taste so banal. In the end, apparently everything does indeed, just taste like chicken.

EODD 2.0: What Are the SNAPP System Foods?
Jan 21st
The Every Other Day Diet plan or (EODD) is taking the diet world by storm, and for good reason. EODD is more than just a diet – it’s a full lifestyle changing plan. Author Jon Benson is a nutrition and fitness expert who enjoys helping people lose weight the healthy way. He invented the SNAPP EODD 2.0 program to help people who often struggle with weight loss.
Now, every diet plan that has ever been invented tells you what to eat, and in what quantities, in order to induce weight loss. So, what makes Jon’s plan different from all the others out there?
The truth is, Jon developed a system to help himself first. You see, he was once in your shoes. He had become fat and really needed a way to get rid of the excess pounds. Only there was one problem: He hated dieting.
So, as a person who wanted to lose weight and keep it off for good, he knew he needed to find something that allowed him to still enjoy foods he liked, while losing weight and getting healhy.
After much study, trial and error, Jon was able to transform his own chubby body into a leaner, fitter look. Once he knew it worked, he was determined to share his knowledge with everyone else. Good thing too, because, as we all know, there’s an epidemic of obesity in our society.
So, what are the SNAPP system foods?
The SNAPP system translates into shakes, nuts apples, protein and produce. It’s basically an easy way to remember the foods you need to eat on a regular basis. The EODD plan is so flexible that it actually has five different food plans to follow. Each plan is based on the individual dieter’s particular needs.
The food plans go from beginner to extreme. Each plan contains SNAPP foods. This makes things extremely simple for everyone. There’s no mystery about what types of foods you’re going to be eating. And, the really cool thing is that when you are on the primer plan, you can enjoy one meal where “anything goes” every other day.
This is the foundation of the Every Other Day diet plan. But, I have to say that the healthy meals on the plan will also be enjoyable for most people. Of course, you need to truly be serious about getting into shape. Being on this plan doesn’t mean you can go pig out and eat insane amounts of unhealthy foods.
Okay, so here’s an inside look at the SNAPP system foods:
Shakes – These aren’t the kind of shakes you get at your local fast food place. Jon’s plan includes plenty of healthy shakes that contain fresh fruits and vegetables. For instance, there’s a veggie shake made with broccoli, onion and bell pepper. There’s a fruit shake made with blueberries, cherries and grapefruit.
Nuts – Almonds and walnuts are used strategically to keep your metabolism on track, and your body from going into starvation mode. When you think about it, nuts do make a great snack, plus, their texture, flavor and crunchiness creates a little food excitement inside of your mouth, as well as, your tummy.
Apples – You’ve probably already heard that apples have health benefits. Well, it appears that they’re also great for weight loss. Apples contain natural sugar, fiber and other nutrients. Best of all, there are several tasty varieties that you can easily find at your local supermarket.
Protein – There’s no getting around the fact that as human beings we need protein. The SNAPP plan includes lean protein like chicken, beef, fish and beans. You’ll get recipes that shows you several ways to prepare these foods.
Produce – Yes, this means fruits and vegetables. If you’re serious about losing a significant amount of fat, then you’ll gladly enjoy ample amounts of produce.
The plan also includes lots of delicious, and easy to make, recipes that incorporate SNAPP foods. This is pretty much a “no brainer” type of diet that anyone can do if they have the desire. Add on the Jon Benson fitness plan and you’ll be amazed at the results you can achieve.

Foods That Burn Fat!
Jan 21st
To lose fat, you need to keep your blood sugar stable through out the day. If you don’t, you run the risk of pigging out when your blood sugar dips and you are hungry. Often, you end up eating all the wrong foods.

Besides your normal meals, you need to eat a few snacks through out the day. These are not large, calorie dense meals, these are just enough to get you through until the next meal. Here are three of my favorites that help keep me satisfied and full of energy all day.
Fruit
Fruit is one of the perfect foods because it is portable and come in its own serving size. The best thing is that it is good for you. If you hear anyone tell you fruit is bad because of all the sugar it has, run! They are idiots and don’t know what they are talking about. Fact is fruit has sugar but I don’t think it is fruit that is causing so many people to be fat. I think it is a cop out. Do you know anyone that has gotten fat by eating too much fruit!? Do you really think that something that is so prevalent in nature would be bad for you? Grab an apple or any of your favorites as a snack between meals.
Nuts
Nuts are great as they contain healthy fats. Peanuts are not nuts, they are beans. Stick to cashews, almonds and walnuts. All have tons of nutrients. Just be careful of how many you eat. Get a handful and keep it at that.

Make sure you are not eating the nuts that are fried in oils and such. The plain, natural ones are the best for your body. Smoked is ok but try and avoid salted nuts.
Protein bars, drinks and meal replacements
These are great because they pack a lot of nutrients and are good for the busy guy on the go. Try to watch the ingredients and stick to those that are low in sugar. Also try and eat those with all natural ingredients and not loaded with processed junk.

Organic Foods vs Hybrids!
Jan 19th
Best kept secret of the pharmaceutical companies and food industry, since past 12 to 13 years is that you and your children have been eating Genetically Modified Organisms, uncommonly known as GMOs or transgenic or genetically engineered food! A layman hardly understands the repercussions of these genetically modified food and the havoc it can cause in one’s system.
The FDA is very much aware of this fact but has done little or almost nothing to protect everybody from the aftermath this billion dollar industry may cause. Since early 1990’s scientists have urged the food industry and the FDA, to carry out conclusive studies about the threats that GMOs can pose. Until it is proved that no harm is being done to living beings and the environment and particularly causing no severe health risk, to young children, consumption of such foods can be disaster prone. But unfortunately till date, the FDA has blatantly ignored the warnings and is allowing big corporation to use all of us as guinea pigs while the wallets of the business heads in the biotechnology industry are getting obscenely fat!
A new breed of dog or a new breed of roses are produced successfully since ages, by cross breeding or cross pollination. But the difference here is that traditional cross breeding has been done using genes from similar plants or animals to create a new breed. Genetically modified foods use organisms, plants or living beings which are not similar, such as inserting a fish gene into a tomato. Using nature in an unnatural way, carrying out mutations of various genes without proper or informed study can be a potential cause of severe health hazards.
Numerous studies conducted in the field of genetics have shown that whenever a new gene has been introduced in a plant, the new gene can disrupt the functions of the plants native genes. It can result into altered or mutated DNA. Sequence of DNA can be deleted, truncated or the gene may be turned on or off, and the protein coded from such a gene in the native plant that is otherwise harmless has the potential to become very toxic. In a case study done on rats which were fed GM potatoes, had smaller hearts, livers, kidneys, testicles and brain, a damaged immune system and a change in the white blood cells. Several rats developed lesions in the stomach. But the most frightening fact is the speed with which these changes start to develop.
In another study conducted on white mice, it was discovered that the females gained weight significantly . Their liver and kidneys were damaged. On the other hand the effect in the males was exactly opposite. They grew to only half the size of the females.
A farmer from Germany ,named Glockner grew GM corn on his farm. He fed the GM corn to the cows he owned and alarmingly within a short period of time, a dozen cows died. The remaining cows developed a mysterious disease and had to be killed. He was left with no choice but to stop growing this corn.
Some farmers rearing pigs noticed that the conception rate in females had dropped dramatically and some of the males had became sterile after eating GM corn.
There is also a potential of creating allergens. A study was done on the bean and the pea plant that were not otherwise allergenic. The genes from the bean were inserted into the pea, creating an allergenic plant. If a person who is allergic to peanuts consumes a GM plant which is not of peanut, but has peanut DNA inserted into it, then the person is bound to have an allergic reaction. It is almost impossible to determine in which person what will trigger a reaction as gene from which plant or organism or living being is introduced in the GM foods is hard to track.
According to Health Wellness and Happiness, Nigel Hawkes, Science Editor for the London Times had written an article about the experiment conducted on ladybugs which had eaten aphids that had dined on genetically modified potatoes. The result showed that the lady bugs life span was cut by 50 % and they laid fewer eggs even though they did not directly eat the GM potatoes. A similar outcome was noticed in the Monarch butterfly. Any guesses as to why the honey bee is disappearing?
The research laboratories of the biotech industry did their own testing. But this was done on mature rats and mice. It is a well versed fact and the biotech industry is also familiar with the fact that the results would be different when studies are conducted on the young and adult mice. As the young utilize nutrients in much higher quantity to build the body as it is their growing phase, and during this phase of accelerated growth if new allergens are introduced, then potential liver and kidney or brain damage is possible.
Because of the potential disruption and genetic alterations in the DNA of this foods, you may think that GMOs would be soon banned. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Money and power is the goal of this industry and we are just minions of the biotech industry which control and mint money, no matter what damage is being done to the society and all of mankind.
Another terrifying fact is that one of the GMO company has produced what they call terminator seeds. Terminator seeds are produced by taking native seeds and making them sterile.
The obvious objective of producing such seeds can be that farmers will be left with no choice and will have to eventually buy only GMO seeds from the companies. Imagine the implications!
Dr. John Fagan an award winning molecular biologist, mentioned, that amongst all technologies, genetic engineering is the most dangerous because of the threat it poses of unexpected harmful side effects which cannot be reversed or corrected and will in turn harm all future generations.
A survey conducted showed that 9 out of 10 people would not purchase or dare to eat genetically modified foods.
This fact is very well known by the FDA and the food industry and hence they are always going to hide the fact that you are already eating it. Unless you are eating only organically grown food, any kind of processed food that contains corn or soy product, canola oil and some rice, tomato sauces, it is almost certain that you are eating genetically modified foods.
Initially when GMOs were introduced we were made to believe that GMO crops were being bred to produce crops with higher resistance to insect invasion,. This crops could survive harsh weather conditions, changing climatic condition,, floods, droughts and higher yield of the crops would eventually end starvation in the world . If only this was the real reason but it sounds too good to be true.
Several excellent books are available which expose the masterminds behind this GMOs and the individuals and companies that are quietly working in the background gaining unprecedented strength and power while filling their enormous coffers at the cost of the ignorant society. Top Ten… World’s Wierdest Foods
Jan 19th
Inspired by the thought of drinking cups of Palm Civet poo coffee (see the story here), we have put together this list of the world’s weirdest foods.
We’re not interested in your average bugs’n'beetles that can be found in every Thai market-stall. We’re interested in bizarre concoctions from ramshackle restaurants; local delicacies that nobody has ever heard of. Things that make you wonder ‘who on earth was the first person to try that?’
We’d like to try some of them ourselves, and others we wouldn’t even wish upon the most eager ‘I’m a celebrity’ contestant. Some of them are the most calorific and sweat inducing plates of food we’ve ever seen.
So, for the strong of stomach only, tuck in that napkin. Here they are…
Natto: Served at street stalls and eateries all over Japan, this stinky gloop consists of fermented soy beans. It’s a great source of protein, but when you are eating something that looks like snot and smells of strong cheese, nutrition is probably the last thing on your mind.
Jellyfish: Known almost exclusively for being floaty, tentacle-y and sting-y, jellyfish are a delicacy in asian restaurants worldwide. Choose from jellyfish salad, blanched jellyfish, or jellyfish in sesame dressing. Try the sliced jellyfish at the Wukong Restaurant, Kowloon, Hong Kong.
Sliced and ready for savouring – fresh jellyfish
Cassava: It’s a vital staple in northern South America and central Africa that feeds millions upon millions of people, but that doesn’t stop cassava from being highly toxic. Similar to potato, the root is the part that’s eaten, and the larger roots (’bitter’ cassava) contain lethal amounts of cyanide if the stuff is not properly washed.
Deep fried everything, Scotland: Ahh the Scots…inventors of the television, the fax machine and the kaleidoscope. Oh, and let’s not forget the Stonner – a sausage wrapped in kebab meat and then deep-fried. It’s accompanied with a salad (that’s chips to you and me) and a health warning. Walk into most chippies in Glasgow and they’ll deep fry anything from cream eggs to pizza.
Chicken fried steak with ice cream: This grammatical conundrum of an artery-clogging dish comes to you straight from Texas. It’s a battered steak fried in bacon fat served with savoury ice-cream made with fat and scraps from the pan. Our guess is that this won’t go anywhere towards your five-a-day.
Hope that’s not the healthy option: chicken fried steak and ice cream…
Chitterlings aka Chitlin’s: For tripe and sweetbread lovers everywhere, this one isn’t that strange. When you order chitlin’s you are eating pig’s intestines, and you are most probably in the southern USA, where they are common. They come either fried, grilled or served in broth and are so popular that there’s a festival dedicated to them held every year in Salley, South Carolina.
Scandinavian salty liquorice: It’s pretty much always the last sweet left in the packet and quite possibly the most bizarre flavour combination ever invented. Some bright spark in Scandinavia decided to roll the black candy in salt to make it more appealing. It didn’t work. It’s widely available in Scandinavia and Northern Germany. It’s also one of the most appalling tasting things ever created (in our opinion).
Kangaroo sushi: This can be found in some of Tokyo’s sushi bars – if you search hard enough. Kangaroo is tender and tasty, with a texture very much like certain types of tuna – making the meat ideal for sushi dishes. One of the tastier looking morsels on the list.
There must be a couple of kangaroo rolls in this delicious platter
Hogs head cheese: It’s not quite cheese, and it’s not quite pig…it’s hogs head cheese, straight from the Deep South. You know you are on to a weird food gem when the ingredients include one hog head, split and cleaned, four pig feet, scraped and cleaned, and four pounds pork butt. Try it at the New Orleans Rib Room
Raw goat: Goat? Delicious. Raw goat? We’re not so sure. The commonly eaten mezze dish Kibbeh Nayyeh is popular in Lebanon and Syria and consists of raw goat meat mixed with bulgur wheat and spices. We imagine it to be a bit like steak tartare, but a bit more goaty.
