Adopt A Vegetarian Detox Diet For Cancer Prevention

Cancer is a stealthy and dangerous disease that is not well understood. There have been links made between cancer and high risk behaviors, but there is no clear recipe for either the development of or the avoidance of cancer. Many naturopathic doctors, however, say that cancer prevention is possible when you adopt a detox diet.

A detox diet can help you to cleanse and remove toxins from your body. Naturopathic doctors suggests that cancer is likely to result when you have too much toxins in your body. A detox diet is primarily vegetarian. Vegetarian foods are biochemically more acceptable to your body as compared to junk food like potato chips and diet pepsi. They are fiber rich and are better able to help you cleanse waste products much better.

A vegetarian detox diet can help you with lowered risks when it comes to cancer. Whether you are looking out for your future and you have never had cancer or you are recovering from cancer, getting into a vegetarian diet may be a good consideration.

The Meat Association

Meat has been linked with the risk for developing cancer. Red meat is especially notorious for being listed among the offenders. While no one is certain why the meat is linked to cancer, there are a few theories.

When red meat is grilled or broiled , it is blackened on the outside. Charcoal is also suspected to be a carcinogen. When you eat the blackened surface of your hamburger or steak, you are actually eating charcoal.

Another theory is that the animals reared nowadays for human consumptoms are often fed with hormones to hasten growth. It could be that those hormones continue to work after the cow is dead. Instead of stimulating healthy muscle growth though, they start to affect healthy cells negatively. Chickens and pigs are also similary fed hormones nowadays. Hence, consider switching or eating more vegetarian foods for cancer prevention.

Health Benetifs Of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are chemical compounds found in many of the plant foods that you eat. They work together with your natural defenses to combat disease. They are especially useful when it comes to promoting healthy tissue growth rather than cancerous tissue growth.

Spinach as well as blueberries, apples and several other plant foods are rich in antioxidants. The great news is that these foods are highly nutritious and are also very flavorful.

Cleansing Foods

To improve your health and for cancer prevention, select a plan that emphasizes on foods that can help you to remove bowels easily and on an everyday basis. A vegetarain detox diet ought to fit the bill!

Home Made Diet

Having a slow metabolism can be a problem as you get older. I find that I do not use all the energy that I take in when I eat the same meals that I did when I was younger. The result is that I gradually increase in weight through the year and then come summer I look like a pregnant woman when I put on my swimmers.

A couple of years ago i went on a diet from one of those chemist weight loss plans. It was very successful but cost me a small fortune. My actual food bill was much higher than eating my normal large meals.

I decided to go on a diet again recently and was going to try the cheaper meals from the supermarket. I went shopping to buy the packets of food and returned home having completely forgotten to go to that section of the shop.

I was disappointed with myself for having done this, wanting to start the diet that day. I sat down to think about when I would return to the shop to get the meals. While sitting and thinking I remembered that I had several flour types in the cupboard along with my usual breakfast add-ons and decided to try mixing up my own meal using these ingredients.

I just used one tablespoon of each of the flours then added some chocolate drink mix and finally some milk powder. I added this to some water and stirred it up. When I tasted my concoction I was pleasantly surprised.

I decided to make up a larger batch and try it for the next week using the measurements for mixing a diet meal from the one I had purchased from the chemist; 1/3 of a cup of diet food to 200ml of water. After one week of having this diet food twice each day I had lost 1kg and that was without any serious exercise at all.

So here is the recipe for my diet:

First you get a bag of wheat germ and add one bag of LSA [Linseed Sunflower and Almond] mix (both from your supermarket health food section). You need to blend the LSA into the wheat germ in a container so that you will always get an even amount when making up your meals.

You need a bag of rice flour and a bag of maize flour. I got these from an Indian food outlet but you may get them from somewhere else depending on your supermarkets.

You also need a container of some sort of milk additive food flavour. Kids milk flavour or drinking chocolate will do. I have made up one batch using half drinking chocolate and half instant coffee. You could use anything you like as long as it will dissolve in cold water.

And you need a bag of skim milk powder. Make sure the milk powder mixes easily in cold water. Most of them do but some do not.

Now to the measurements for a batch of the meal mix:

2/3 cup of rice flour
2/3 cup of maize flour
2/3 cup of wheat germ and LSA
2/3 cup of your chosen flavouring
2 cups of skim milk powder

Place these dry ingredients in a large container and mix well with a wooden spoon or cooking fork.

Using the diet food:

For your meal you take 1/3 cup of your meal mix and add it to your chosen amount of water. You can use anywhere between 200ml and 600ml of water depending on your hunger level. You must continue to stir the meal as you drink because the wheat germ tends to settle out and you don’t want a large amount in your mouth at one time. The taste is not unpleasant but it tends to be uncomfortable in your mouth. Its a bit like eating sesame seeds off of a spoon.

If you use these meals for two of your meals each day and eat a normal meal for your third you will loose weight quite fast. If you add a bit of exercise you will loose it even faster. It is important that you have one meal a day that matches your current normal diet so that you do not let your stomach shrink too much. You MUST maintain your ability to eat normally. You can limit your diet meal to one per day when you have reached your goal. This will help you maintain your loss. Once you have made your goal, you only need to use the diet meals if your weight goes up more than 2kg.

It is important that you do any weighing of yourself first thing in the morning after you have been to the bathroom. Do not repeat the weighing later in the day. It is normal and required that your weight be higher at the end of the day than in the morning for normal body functions. It is normal for your weight to be around 1kg higher at the end of the day than it was in the morning. Also it is important to realize that water, an essential part of life is very heavy. We must drink around 1ltr per day to allow our body to operate properly. If we get dehydrated we will get sick. Water is required to flush out the waste products from our body every day. For most people, water is not part of our weight problem. So weighing ourselves once a day is healthy and will not cause us to panic when we drink a bit of water in the heat of the day.

It is perfectly ok to take a day off from the diet once a week and even to “Pig out” on that day. You will still gradually loose weight over a couple of months even with such days off. That is how I have been doing my diet. It has taken me about 3 months to go from 92kg to 84kg. I have only had a small amount of exercise each week during this time.

How to succeed at dieting:

I know many people want to loose weight but fail. There are many reasons, most of them are in their own minds. It is hard to think of diet when everyone around you is eating junk food and drinking loads of alcohol. You need to have a definite reason to want to diet and also set a goal that is reachable. It is better to plan to loose 5kg and succeed than to plan to loose 20kg and fail. You can set your goal for another 5kg when you have completed your first journey.

So tell all your friends and family that you need to go on a diet. Tell them your goal and tell them about your progress. You will get support to win if you share with people who care. You are sure to find someone else who has succeeded and you might inspire others to join you. Treat this as an adventure, not a prison term. You are increasing your quality of life, not missing out on some poorly planned “eat fest”.

Remember that with this diet you do not have to outlay loads of money buying food that you can only use as diet food. The ingredients I have listed here can be used in many ways in all sorts of recipes. When you have reached your goal and you cut down on the number of diet meals you can add the ingredients to your other cooking and use them up while they are still fresh.

Reasons for Choosing a Vegetarian Diet

Let us start with a brief background on some the reasons people have chosen a vegetarian diet in our history:

The idea of vegetarianism is not a new one, by any stretch of the imagination. Indeed man has in one way or another eaten vegetarian diets since his beginnings. Granted, the first vegetarians did so only out necessity. Meat may not have been available due to harsh winters, animal migrational patterns or even poor tribal leadership. Only foraged food would have been available under such circumstances.

As man evolved and became more able to manipulate his environment, so came the option to choose. Available facts point to the first vegetarian ideologies being practiced in Egypt around 3,200BC where some religious groups abstained from eating flesh, as they believed it produced bad karma with regards to their reincarnation.

Around 2000BC Hindus, on the Indian sub-continent, began practising vegetarianism in the belief that a vegetarian diet is needed to reach spiritual enlightenment. Even today, Hindus make up the largest percentage of vegetarians on the Earth.

Also from the Indian sub-continent, around 600BC, came the religion of Jainism. In its teachings, Jainism insists that we honor the spiritual nature of all life. Extemely dedicated Jainists go to the extent of straining insects from drinking water and even wearing masks to avoid inhaling small, airborne creatures. They will only eat fruits that have natually fallen from trees and are not supposed to eat honey or rooted plants.

Janism is the only religion requiring their monks to be vegetarian.

Vegetarianism was also popularised in Ancient Greece by many of the great philosophers including Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle. Indeed vegetarians in Europe were originally referred to as Pythagoreans, after the Greek Philosopher Pythagoras advocated a vegetarian diet for its nutritional and ethical values. He claimed,

“As long as Man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seed of murder and pain cannot reap joy and love.”

It was not until 1847, when the first vegetarian society was formed in Ramsgate, Kent UK, that the name Vegetarian was first conceived. Contrary to popular belief, the word Vegetarian arose from the Latin word `vegetus`, meaning `lively` which was how early vegetarians claimed their diet made them feel.

Many reason have been voiced in favour of vegetarianism in our history including the long held philosophy that vegetarians are living longer, healthier lives than their meat eating counter-parts. Much evidence has already been accumulated to support these claims.

Now let us look at some of the reasons that justify becoming vegetarian in our modern society.

Necessity

The case of necessity speaks for itself really; anyone unable to find a supply of meat sufficient to sustain life must find an alternative until such time that meat becomes available again.

Economic

An Economic Vegetarian is someone who practices vegetarianism either out of necessity, lack of funds for instance, or because of a conscious or philosophical viewpoint that the consumption of meat is economically unsound and that vegetarianism will help improve public health and curb many starvation issues.

Environmental

Environmental Vegetarians are similar to Economic Vegetarians. According to the United Nations, the livestock sector (cows, chickens, pigs, etc) is one of the three most significant contributors to our most serious environmental problems, at every scale from local to global. It is one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases. The use of feedlots, for cattle feeding, is one of the most inefficient and environmentally harmful ways of producing meat; yet they still remain widespread throughout cattle farming.

Religion

Many religions support vegetarianism including Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism and Taoism. They offer similar teachings which stress the value of all life and forbids the act of destroying life simply for human gains.

Distaste

Some people genuinely do not enjoy the taste of meat, suggesting it tastes sweaty or fatty. Others choose to be vegetarian because they find meat products aesthetically unappetizing. An example being, the carcass of a herd animal lying in a field would attract real carnivores such as big cats or wolves, but the mere sight would disgust most humans.

Animal Welfare

Many vegetarians, especially western vegetarians, are motivated by animal welfare. They see animals as our friends, with whom we share the world and not as mere food. The fact that most parents actively encourage their children to love and appreciate animals is totally contradictory to the way in which humans really respect and treat animals.

Personal Health

Possibly the single most reason more and more people are turning to vegetarianism, current studies are showing that vegetarians are living longer and healthier. A study by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1999 found that the mortality ratio in fish eaters was lowest (0.82) then followed by vegetarians (0.84) occasional meat eaters also at (0.84) compared to regular meat eaters at (1.0).

A recent study shown in the British Medical Journal concluded that,

“Higher IQ at age 10 years was associated with an increased likelihood of being vegetarian at age 30…IQ remained a statistically significant predictor of being vegetarian as an adult…”

Conscience

Conscience is a conglomeration of all the other reasons. It is our moral conscience, which allows us to weigh up what we see, hear and know. It is our choice whether we allow it to influence out daily life. Those who are able to suppress their consciousness, deliberately or otherwise, will ultimately make a decision that will not favour the miss-fortunes of animals.

I hope, that in some way, this article will encourage people to explore vegetarianism as a real option. Whatever reasons for becoming vegetarian, one thing is not in doubt; vegetarianism is here to stay and it looks likely to become the preferred diet of choice for all humans in the not too distant future.

Frankenstein Food: Is That Really A Diet?

People are really confused about Frankenstein foods. The pharmaceutical companies and food manufacturing have kept a secret from you for the past 12 to 13 years! You and your brood have been eating Genetically Modified Organisms, unusually known as GMO or transgenic or hereditarily engineered food! Across Britain the debate about Genetically Modified Organisms in our crops and our food becomes more heated by the day.

The FDA knows about it but has complete small to none to defend us from this billion dollar manufacturing. We have got a major weed problem on this farm and possibly we go over the same piece of five times with ground the sprayer, two times for weeds, maybe three times for weeds. Scientists from as early as the 1990s urged the food industry and the FDA, that GMO can pose a harsh health danger, particularly to young children and that extended term studies need to be done to ensure no harm is being done to humans and the environment, but to date, the FDA deliberately ignores the warnings and allows big business to use us as guinea pigs while the biotechnology industries wallet get obscenely fat!

One can quarrel that cross propagation or cross pollination has been done productively for ages, such as a new type of dog or a new breed of roses. To satisfy the labeling requirements a producer must include the words produced from genetically modified soya or produced from genetically modified maize in the list of ingredients, a footnote to the list of ingredients, or some other clear location on the product .The dissimilarity here is that customary cross propagation has been done with similar to plants or like flora and fauna to make a new breed. Genetically customized foods use unlike organisms, such as inserting a fish gene into a tomato. It is a freak of nature, a change that without proper studies, or ignored studies, can result in severe physical condition risks.

Studies contain shown that when a new gene has been introduced to a plant, the plants native genes can be altered mutated, DNA can be deleted, turned on or off, and the GM protein in the native plant that is harmless has the potential to turn out to be very toxic. You can call a dog as genetically modified fox or a cat as a genetically modified tiger. Case in summit, a study done with rats that were fed GM potatoes, they had smaller hearts, livers, kidneys, testicles and brain, a damaged immune scheme and a change in the white blood cells. If we trace the evolution of various species on this planet, genetic modification has been a natural process. More than a few rats urbanized lesions in the stomach. What is more scary is how rapidly these change start to expand.

In another learn with white mice, it was exposed that the females had important weight gain and injure to the liver and kidneys, and the males had the conflicting effect and grew to only semi the size of the females. For centuries, humans have been mixing and matching genetic materials.

A German farmer named Clocker grew GM corn on his arable farm. He fed his cows this GM corn and inside a short period of time, a dozen cows died. It was often a cross pollination of probably a Salem Mango with Alphorns Mango or a marriage of our Punjab brown wheat with white American wheat. The remaining cows developed a mysterious illness and had to be destroyed. He stopped up raising this corn.

Some pig farmers noticed that female conception rate had dropped dramatically after eating GM corn and some of the males became sterile. Present is also the possible of create allergens. So chances are, unless you are a raw or organic food consumer, you ate a GM food derivative this very day. A study was done where two plants that were not allergenic, the bean and the pea, had genes from the bean inserted into the pea, creating an allergenic plant. More than that, genetic manipulation could increase crop yield, increase its shell life and provide unlimited new varieties in taste and flavor.

You may have someone who is allergic on the way to peanuts eat a GM plant other than peanuts that may have peanut DNA and the person has an allergic reaction. It is almost impossible to determine what will trigger a response if you are eating GM foods.

According to Health Wellness and Happiness, in an article that was written by Nigel Hawkers, Science Editor for the London Times, they exposed that ladybugs had eaten aphids that had dined on hereditarily modified potatoes. The result was that even though the lady bugs did not in a straight line eat the GM potatoes, their life span was cut by 50 % and they laid fewer eggs. Being a fertilizer scientist, I am impressed with these achievements in green revolution. A comparable thing happened to the Monarch butterfly. Any guess as to why the honey bee is dying?

When the biotech industry did their own difficult, they did it on grown-up rats and mice. Thus the most serious concern now is that extensive use of Gomes can result in reduction and alteration of global genetic diversity and therefore, biodiversity. It is known through the biotech manufacturing that results would be dissimilar with young because the young use much more nutrients to construct the body as it grows, and if new allergens are introduced, then possible liver and kidney or brain injure is likely.

Because of the potential disturbance in the food DNA, you would think that GMO would be banned. Remodeling nature with genetic foods is a serious business indeed, but how serious that business is yet to be seen. Sadly, this is not the case. Money and authority is the goal here and we are just minion to the biotech manufacturing to control and make cash off of no substance what injure is being done to all of mankind.

What I find very scary is the fact that a GMO company has shaped what they call terminator seeds. Farmers, faced with a time lag between seed time and harvest and an even longer time lag between insemination and maturity, are victimized by this intolerable burden of debt. When interest rates are high and exchange rates are askew farmers started to disappear. This is where they take a native seeds and caused them to be germ-free. The reason for this can merely be so that farmers will finally have to buy merely GMO seeds from them. Think of the implication!

Award charming molecular biologist, Dr. John Fagan said, that of all technologies, hereditary engineering is particularly unsafe because of the threat of unforeseen damaging side belongings that cannot be upturned or corrected and will afflict all future generations.

A review shows that 9 out of 10 people would not buy or eat hereditarily modified foods. This is fully known by the FDA and the food manufacturing and they are not leaving to tell you anytime almost immediately that you are in fact consumption it. We are, whether we know it or not, engaged in an unpublicized struggle for survival. We simply cannot afford to let our best farmers disappear and the quality of our food to continue to decline. Unless you are eating completely organic, any processed food that contains any corn or soy product, canola oil and some rice, tomato sauces, you are almost certain to be eating hereditarily modified foods.

When GMO were at first introduced we were told that GMO crops were life form bred to create senior confrontation to insect attack, that crops could be breed to survive all types of type of weather, floods, droughts and end world hunger. If only that was the real cause, but it is not. Serious problems with our food began long before the advent of genetic experimentation, at the root of which lie economic pressures on farming.

There are more than a few outstanding books that expose GMO and the persons and companies that are silently operational in the backdrop gaining unparalleled strength and authority while filling their enormous treasury.

The Complete Guide To Good Food For A Diet

So many people want to know what is good food for a diet. When I say: “the complete guide to good food for a diet” most will probably think that I am taking a fat change here! It will surprise you though, to find that “good food for a diet” is not that difficult. Most common everyday foods are excellent weight loss food.

1. What is the secret then?

If you want to lose weight, you have to follow a well balanced diet combined with moderate exercise. This will ensure long term healthy weight loss.

2. But, I promised you a guide, so here it is:

Pig our on veggies, yes you are reading this right, pig out on veggies. Most vegetables are very low in calories and packed with nutrition. There are some though, that are better for fat loss than others.

* Green vegetables:

Most green vegetables are excellent for weight loss. Take note though, that peas are very high in carbs and must rather be considered a carbohydrate than a green vegetable. You also have to take care that you do not add calories with your cooking methods; for instance, spinach can be considered a free vegetable, but as soon as you make creamed spinach it becomes very high in calories and are completely unsuitable.

* Yellow vegetables:

Here you can go overboard. Carrots are a very good choice and even pumpkin, if you do not add anything can taste very good and be very satisfying.

* Salads:

Especially in summer, when salads really taste good, eat as much salad as possible. Here, once again, beware of adding calories. Most salad dressings simply crawl with calories. Make your own with fresh ingredients so that you can control what goes into it.

* Meat:

When it comes to meat, good food for a diet is mainly chicken and fish. Low fat beef and pork can be eaten in smaller quantities. As far as the chicken goes, try and stick to the breast as it contains the smallest amount of fat, it is almost fat free. Once again, do not add calories with your cooking methods, grill or steam are the best.

* Legumes:

Legumes are excellent food for a diet. They are low fat, contains lots of fiber to make you feel satisfied and combined with small amounts of carbs they supply your body with complete proteins to use as building blocks.

* Carbohydrates:

Do not cut out carbs completely. Your body needs them to burn for energy. You have to cut down though and eat no more than five small portions a day. Keep to whole grains and low fat options. Remember that you can include rice, potatoes and peas here.

* Dairy products:

Here you have to be careful. Only eat low fat or fat free dairy products and beware of hard cheeses as they normally are very high in fat and crawls with calories! A good choice as food for a diet is fat free, unflavored, unsweetened yoghurt. Use it in your cooking and as salad dressings.

* Fat:

Normally fat can not be considered as food for a diet. Your body does need some fat, though, to be able to use the fat soluble vitamins so you need to eat about three teaspoons of fat or oil a day.

So, there you have your complete guide to food for a diet! I hope it will help you in your weight loss efforts.

Warning! The wrong eating plan can really hamper your weight loss efforts. Find our more about healthy weight loss when you visit Magriet’s site How To Lose Weight.you can also visit her blog How To Lose Weight. for even more easy tips.

A God oriented diet

What we eat determines how healthy we will be. Few realize that what we eat also has a powerful impact on our nation and planet as well.  The eating trends in the last 100 years are ominous and against God’s creation.

First, we have the richer societies eating more and more sugar, meat and dairy products.  Studies show a direct relationship between this and increases in obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.  This is getting so serious that in the United States the health care system is being overwhelmed and costs are out of control.

Second, in the U.S. farms are almost extinct.  They have been replaced with “Factory farms”.  Here God’s creatures: pigs, cows, and chickens are crammed into filthy stinking buildings and treated in the cruelest ways possible.  Here is a web site that shows the hells that man has created:

http://www.farmsanctuary.org/issues/factoryfarming/

These animals were designed by God to be just as intelligent and sensitive as dogs and cats.  Some people even have chickens and pigs as pets and have loving relationships with them. The godless factory farms care only about profits. Each year,  in the U.S. over 10 billion cows, chickens, pigs and others are victimized. There has never been so much suffering on Earth in all time.

Michael Vick  aroused the anger of millions and was jailed for his cruelty to dogs.  Animal cruelty laws do not apply to farm animals.  There is a moral laxity here. Factory farm owners deserve to be prosecuted like Michael Vick because their cruelty is just as bad if not worse. But the politicians are under the influence of these powerful corporations and they make sure that their cruelty is legal.

Third, factory farms are a major source of pollution and environmental destruction.  Here too, these corporations are exempt from most pollution laws.  This is in spite of the fact that these victimized animals produce more excrement than the entire human population of the United States.

In Brazil, the rain forests are being destroyed at an alarming rate. About 70% of the destroyed forests are being converted by large corporations into grazing land for cattle to export meat.

Factory farms are a major cause of  global warming.  According to a UN report, they produce more greenhouse gas equivalents than all the cars, trucks and airplanes combined!

God did not even design us to be meat eaters.  We have almost all flat teeth and molars for chewing plants. Meat eaters like cats and dogs have sharp teeth for pulling meat apart.    Meat eaters have relatively short digestive tracks.  We have relatively long digestive tracks that are convoluted for slower digestion of plant materials.

We need to return to God by doing what we were designed to do.   We should eat a plant based diet. Vegans, those who do not eat anything from animals including milk, eggs and cheese, have been around a long time and they are much healthier than meat eaters.  Studies of Vegans like Seventh Day Adventists show they live 5-10 years longer.

There are vegetarians who avoid meat, but eat eggs, cheese and drink milk.  These are products of factory farms and extreme cruelty.  Eating a lot of these cancels out any health or moral benefits from not eating meat.

Around the world, the Japanese  (especially the Okinawans) and people who live around the Mediterranean Sea eat diets that contain very little meat and dairy products and they are the healthiest in the world.  Americans eat an excessive amount of meat and dairy and have very high rates of  heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and cancer.  Its no surprise that the U.S. has the highest health care costs in the world and it is getting worse. Some might say it is the wrath of God.

Eating a God designed plant based diet seems crazy to almost everyone in Western countries. There is a strong cultural momentum driving the consumption of meat and dairy products.  We are all taught one way or another that we must eat these to be healthy.  The facts show this isn’t true, but few are aware and industry advertises many falsehoods..

We can honor God and improve our health by refusing to support the demonic factory farms.  This can be done by  becoming familiar with the diets of countries like Japan, China, Thailand, India and the nations around the Mediterranean.  We can also read Vegan books for recipes and join Vegan organizations.  Vegans are quite enthusiastic about their delicious meals and are proud to share and teach.
`
Please be warned not to try a meatless diet without guidance. There are pitfalls in diet to avoid.  A good diet has mostly carbohydrates with adequate protein and fat.  There is much that gets by as “food” that might better be called poisons.  High glycemic carbohydrates like cookies, cakes,  and donuts are best not eaten at all, but if so only in very small amounts.  These carbohydrates are a prime cause of weight gain and diabetes.

God gave us a beautiful planet with wonderful creatures to share it with.  They may not have as much intelligence as we do, but they have enough intelligence for their needs.  They also have feelings, care for their young, and are happy being what God created them as. The spirit of God dwells inside all conscious beings to one degree or another.

Life is the expression of God in the material universe.  Living matter is an infinitely small part of the cosmos, but it is all important.  We can worship God  by appreciating and caring for his living creations. By doing this we can create a present day Garden of Eden.  We need to repent and return to God. Eating a delicious plant based diet that does not have horrible suffering as its foundation is the way of God. How will we answer to God for the factory farms?  You can save yourself from the guilt and fight them by not eating their production.

Top 10 Most Unrealistic Diet Expectations of All Time

What is the one thing you find the hardest to grasp with dieting?

Is it the type of food you eat, the amount of food you eat, the amount of exercise or is it the lack of freedom of food choices.

After overcoming my weight problem after spending 7 and a half years of my life yo-yo dieting, I thought it would be fun to write down on paper the things I struggled with most. These 10 factors are the ones that more likely than not, caused me to ruin my diet.

1. EATING SMALLER MEALS

This was extremely difficult for me. I like to feel content and full after a meal. I found I could only do this if I was really busy. However, if I had nothing else to do after finishing my diet meal, I would get irresistible cravings to splurge…and more often than not I did…in a big way!

2. EATING DISGUSTING FOOD

I found this the most difficult. Not only did I have to give up my favourite foods, I had to eat the most blend and tasteless food imaginable. Even if a diet did sound good to start with (the high fat diet) the lack of variety soon made me hate those foods. I still cringe thinking about how I used to force myself to eat tuna in spring water and egg whites. After a while I was dry reaching every time I put them in my mouth! To solve this problem, I would take a mouthful of tuna, then take a mouthful of water and drink it down! Yuck! After having this meal for lunch at work, I would get home and eat half a box of Nutri-Grain cereal…with nearly a litre of milk!

3. CUTTING CARBOHYDRATES

This drove me crazy! Whenever I did this I felt so drained and weak. I was always tired. I found it hard to string more than a few days of consistent dieting together without pigging out on cereal, pasta, juice and sandwiches. What I realize now is that whatever I wasn’t allowed to have, that’s what I craved.

4. CONSUMING LESS FOOD AT NIGHT

I don’t like to admit it, but one of my favourite things is to eat a large, almost challenging-to-finish meal for dinner that will leave me stuffed. I don’t know why but I love the feeling. Maybe I like the challenge and almost like to show off how much food I can eat. Also, night time is when I’m unwinding and I would like to have a snack or two while relaxing and watching T.V before going to bed. Many diets actually want you to eat very little from 5pm onwards and not eat for 3 hours before going to bed…I obviously struggled with this one. My most common time for pigging out and ruining my diet was (and still is) at night time.

5. EATING A TON OF PROTEIN

I found this the hardest in my day to day activities. Some diets won’t let you even have an apple without having a piece of protein with it. I couldn’t stand to eat so much meat…blend meat at that because it had to be lean. Do you know hard it is to get a lean piece of meat when you are out and about? I would have to carry tins of tuna with me because this was the only portable meat. I couldn’t always leave the house because I had to eat protein every 2-3 hours! (I know that’s a bit extreme but I felt like that some times!) This is where supplement companies must be loving it, because the most portable source of protein is…protein powder… which leads me to my next point…

6. EXPENSIVE SUPPLEMENTS

I personally found that the most restricting diets were the ones that recommended that you use supplements to make the diet easier. Maybe they made the diet so hard that you had no choice but to buy their supplements? I don’t know. All I know is many of those supplements (predominantly Meal Replacement Powders) were disgusting and extremely expensive. I would fork out over a $100 for a few weeks supply. What I find amusing is that they also say that you should follow their diet for life (I wonder why?!…$$) Besides how can a powdered mix be more healthy than natural from the ground real food?

7. DIETS THAT CUT OUT AN ENTIRE FOOD GROUP

These diets were the hardest ones to follow. Whether it was a no fat diet, a no protein diet (all fruit, or soup diets) or a no carbohydrate diet I couldn’t stand the lack of freedom. I personally found the no carb diet the hardest, I felt like a zombie and I was talking as slow as Rocky Balboa! Any diet that cuts out a whole macronutrient (whether be protein, carbs or fat) was just way to demanding for me.

8. EATING LOW FAT

Many of the high protein diets also recommend that you keep your fat intake to a minimum (some allow us to have a tablespoon of flaxseed oil a day…Hooray!) This is what made high protein diets unbearable for me. Not only did we have to eat a ton of it, it had to be as lean as possible. Only the egg white, grilled chicken, no fat, nothing on it, or tuna in spring water…drained…Yuck! If I was lucky some diets would even grant me the luxury of no fat, watery skim milk!
No fat = no taste = no chance for me to stick to it

9. NO FREEDOM OR FLEXIBILITY

This drove me crazy. Most…wait actually all diets had an authorised food list. If a food you wanted to eat wasn’t on the list, you simply couldn’t eat it. Problem was the authorised list normally contained no more than 10-20 foods…that was it! Typically it was: chicken, tuna, egg whites, fish, protein powder and oatmeal, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta and some allowed whole-wheat bread sparingly, along with plenty of vegetables.

What if I was away from my house for more than 2 hours, where was I going to cook this food? Why can’t I just have a chicken burger at McDonalds? Can’t I just have a bottle of Orange Juice at the petrol station? No, No, No if it’s not on the authorised list you can’t eat it!

These damn authorised lists also stopped me from dining out altogether…so my girlfriend suffered. At first I tried to dine out and stick to the authorised list, but I would spend half an hour explaining to the waiter what I wanted. Not only this hassle but the temptation of delicious food all around me made me to simply give up dining full stop.

This drove me crazy because I love dining out. Taking people you care about out for a special night and delicious food. Depriving myself of this right was probably one of the hardest things to cope with.

This lack of flexibility with the diet caused me to pig out on so much junk food (I don’t even want to think about how much money I have given to ol’ Colonel Sanders) I think subconsciously I might also pig out because I am a bit head strong and rebellious. (I’ll show you for not allowing me to eat my favourite foods!)

And last, but definitely not least…

10. NOT BEING ALLOWED TO “OVER-INDULGE” OCCASIONALLY

I have a ridiculously large appetite. I love to eat until I’m stuffed and feel completely satisfied. I almost show off with how much I can eat sometimes (I know that sounds bad but I am proud of how much I can put away!)

All diets were a huge culture shock to me because of how little I was allowed to eat. I probably could have stuck to them if they just let me let my hair down occasionally and “indulge” a little. Many didn’t allow any leeway though. So the pressure of depriving myself of overeating just kept building up and building up until it became unbearable. Then guess what happened. That’s right I OVER ATE and in a big way. At first I felt good about it, but then felt really depressed because I had done the wrong thing by the diet I was following.

I honestly didn’t and to this day still don’t see the harm in “pigging out” every now and then. If you stick to your diet and train hard, a large pizza to yourself or a visit to an all you can eat buffet once or twice a week will definitely not hurt your progress… in actual fact I believe it helps you. I believe it actually speeds up weight loss (I’ll go more in-depth in another article) but more importantly it helps keep you sane, and keeps cravings down, which enables you to be more consistent for a longer period of time.

How cool is that!

Don’t believe me?

I don’t blame you; in fact I was a sceptic for years, because of the general beliefs on dieting and weight loss.

It wasn’t until, after struggling for over 8 years to lose weight, (because I love chocolate, ice cream and sugary cereals too much) that I decided to stop worrying about what I was eating, and instead focus on my total calorie intake.

Surprisingly I lost 35 pounds, and got a six pack for the first time in my life, all while eating absolutely whatever I wanted everyday.

If you too love your food, (and especially those sugary carbohydrates) then you can check out http:///www.junkfooddietsite.com for photo proof and to discover exactly how I did it.

Luke Johnstone has battled with his weight his whole life. After struggling to come to grips with dieting for over 7 years (because he loves food too much!) he stumbled upon away to lose fat without ever giving up the foods he loved.
